While this app was originally designed for community health work, Palm Kiosk is a great open-source solution for many other business, parenting, and recreational needs.
The Kiosk has two modes: LOCKED and UNLOCKED.
When unlocked, the administrator can change which apps the user can view, can organize those apps, lock the kiosk, change the password, and exit the application.
When locked, Palm Kiosk overlays the users operating system home screen.
Only apps which have been allowed can be opened.
Any Android feature that has not been approved (such as the camera) will not open normally even if launched from an approved application.
To use the app, set Palm Kiosk as the home application in the Android devices Home settings in the settings menu.
To exit the app, you will need to go to settings/home and select your Android devices home application.
The app will initially launch in unlocked mode.
Click the lock icon in the lower right corner to open the apps settings menu.
The default password is 1234.
If you forget the password, you will need to boot the device in safe mode, switch the default home application, and reset the application.
Booting into safe-mode can be prevented, which makes the app more secure.
