MANUAL

You start out with the first few Kanji
Failing will level you down.
Success will level you up.
Database will keep your level for each item.
Finish all reviews and you can add more.
You will unlock vocabulary by mastering all kanji in that word.
You master an item at level 7.
You can study Kanji and vocabulary separately.
Level 1 items will be put in New, so you can focus on those.
You can mark a wrong answer as correct.
You can mark reviews as completed.
You can re-enable completed.

You have 2 chances to answer correctly.
Next review per item is scheduled according to level:
Level 0 = 4 Hours
Level 1 = 8 Hours
Level 2 = 24 Hours
Level 3 = 3 Days
Level 4 = 1 Week
Level 5 = 2 Weeks
Level 6 = 1 Month
Level 7 = 3 Months
Level 8 = Half a year
Level 9 = 1 year
Level 9+ = 1 year

The Kanji are ordered by grade, just like Japanese children learn them.
We do agree with some saying this is not the optimal order for foreigners.
But, we do think it's authentic, and you'll be able to read material by grade.
It is our wish to gradually add reading material in the Japanese Blog section (coming later.)
We focus on three important main pillars :
English ()
On'Yomi ()
Kun'Yomi ()
In a few weeks' time using our platform, you'll know that (Yomi) meaning "reading".
You'll also know that.
(ON) means "Sound";
and.
(KUN) means "Instruction/Explanation/Read"
The ON reading is usually used as a Chinese originated sound individually, or as a part of a word.
(e.g.
On'Yomi reading of being (JYO) is used in reading as (JYOSEI) meaning "feminine gender".)
The KUN reading is usually used as a Japanese word, being an entire word on its own.
(e.g.
Kun'Yomi reading of being (ONNA) is simply the Japanese word for "woman")
Note that not all Kanji have both a Kun'Yomi and ON'Yomi reading.
Sometimes there is a only a On'Yomi reading or vice versa.
How mnemonics work :
Hieroglyph: Kanji is a drawing of something
(e.g.
three lines representing a "streaming water" meaning "river")
Compound: Kanji is made up out of meaningful parts
(e.g.
Kanji "mountain pass" is "up" + "down" + "mountain" )
Note that due the change of history, the logic behind a Kanji is sometimes far-fetched.
Hieroglyphs tend to take weird shapes, and the Radicals or Kanji being used in a Compound Kanji, do not always reflect the same meaning as their Radical or Kanji on its own, but rather being a hieroglyph on its own.
(e.g.
(JI) meaning "letter", the upper radical "shaped crown" is here simply used to represent a roof, while the lower radical "child" is truly used to represent a child)
Sometimes you just have to accept it, and learn it by heart.
Server / Database
Our Server is based in Belgium.
Our database is in the 'cloud', and is therefore considered to be safe.
We back-up our database once a week (in the future we aim for daily).
In case of failure (you never know), we will hopefully just lose few days of progress max.
We do not promise anything (see Terms Of Use).
Our website uses Secure HTTP (https), however we still recommend to use another password than that you use on other services like: paypal, facebook, gmail, etc.
