TRAVESSIA celebrates the lives and the stories of joy and resistance of members of the Black community in Porto, whose lives have been deeply impacted by the legacies of Portuguese colonialism.
In this collaborative, expanded documentary project, Meiselas invited members of Portos Black community to guide her through the citys streets on virtual walks, sharing memories of their daily lives and revealing aspects of Porto that remain invisible to many local residents.
By featuring stories generated from these exchanges, Meiselass experimental project asks: what kinds of crossings shape Black life in Porto? Is it possible to traverseacross time, space and various technologies to develop meaningful personal relationships during our current global pandemic?
