While most nutrient data apps and websites display food information like the containing vitamins, minerals, sugar, fatty acids or dietary fibers in textual tables, Food Compare is dedicated to visualize those information using graphics and charts.
Users of the app can quickly see and understand the nutrient composition of food elements, as well as the amount of vitamins and minerals they contain.
They can use the app both to analyze one of about 160 food elements the app comprises, and to compare multiple foods with each other.
Additionally, different food elements can be combined to one single element in order to calculate the total amount of nutrients in those elements (aggregated nutrient composition).
FoodCompare is based on USDA food data and provides information for most of the everyday groceries people consume, including specific data like the different forms of fatty acids or carbohydrates.
Vitamin and mineral data is displayed relative to the daily requirements of an adult to provide a better understanding of those data.
Besides, the app offers a typical default portion size for each food element (such as 161 g for an apple), though also individual portion sizes and the classic 100 gram can be selected.
