yurvedic Pharmacopoeial Lexicons- The Reference App,
Mahanighantu App is a first of its kind attempt to bring all the major Nighantus together on a mobile platform.
In Ayurveda, we have many Nighantus which have classified food, medicine and poison as well as non-pharmacological components described in Ayurvedic texts into various Vargas.
Different Nighantus have used different classification systems like Guduchyadi Varga, Haritakyadi Varga etc.
The criteria of classification differ from one Nighantu to another and this creates difficulty in accessing data across the Nighantus in an effective manner.
We have to search for information, Nighantu by Nighantu and it is quite challenging to collate all this data in one place.
In order to overcome this difficulty, the data from all the major Nighantus have been reclassified into one master classification system.
This is the Mahanighantu where there is only one classification system across all the Nighantus.
This new classification is based on an intuitive logic of classifying pharmacological, nutritional and non-pharmacological items described in all Nighantus into categories like Plant, Animal, Mineral, Food, Symptoms, Treatments etc.
After choosing a category, information can be accessed by scrolling through the index or the search can be narrowed down by typing a few letters of the word in the search box.
It is a great pleasure for me to offer this App FREE of any cost to the Ayurvedic community so that every student of Ayurveda can download and use this App without any hesitation.
My contribution to this work has been the careful reading of every sloka in all the available Nighantus and classifying them to create the master classification system.
Botanical names of non-controversial plants have been added for convenience of search.
However, botanical names have not been included in case of plants of disputed identity or being a common synonym.
As this has been done single handed by me over a period of three to four years, there are chances that errors may have crept in inadvertently.
Future releases of the App will correct such errors as and when they are noticed.
This is a committed effort by me to make a small contribution to especially the student community of Ayurveda and I hope that this App will make the task of searching across Nighantus less cumbersome.
Nighas are an important set of reference texts.
This tool will be useful not only for those specialising in Dravya Gua but for the entire Ayurvedic Community.
Many of us think that Nighas contain only data on plants, animals and mineral sources.
On the other hand, Nighantus have codified valuable information related to Pathypathy, Vihra, Kriya vidhs, arra avayavs, tu, Rasdis, Anukta Varga, Ktnnas, Au
