Explore Your Instruments
Find every note on your instrument's fingerboard or keyboard.
Select a scale, key, and/or mode and your instrument's notes will change color to display their validity and octave.
Found a nice pattern to play, but not sure what other notes work with it? Tap the search icon in the scale menu, select your pattern's notes, and see all the scales that include them.
Once you've chosen your scale, tap notes to find chords that both include them and fit your chosen scale.
FretNaut takes a freeform approach to learning music theory, allowing you to learn at your own pace, in your own direction.
Learn what tones reside where, and what you think works together, and you'll be able to navigate your instrument with ease.
Go beyond cover songs and repetitive patterns, step up your freestyle, and expand your musical horizons.
Customize Your Collection
No need to find and collect image references of your guitar's fretboard, and no guessing on unique tunings or custom builds.
FretNaut allows you to customize your virtual instruments to match your real ones.
Modify string count, preset and individual tunings, fret range, and even fretless and paired strings (options vary by instrument type).
You're free to digitally recreate your instrument collection, including names and headstocks.
FretNaut currently supports most common stringed instruments (both strummed and bowed) and keyboards, with more coming in future updates.
Tailor Your Experience
Toggle between sharp and flat accidental notes to suit your preference.
You can also choose color schemes for your gallery and instrument views, to find your aesthetic or reduce eye strain.
Obligatory Disclaimers
It might seem obvious, but FretNaut isn't a replacement for full music lessons.
Instead, use it to spice up your practice and freestyling, or dip your toes into the world of music theory without the upfront investment (aside from instruments, of course).
Trying out new scales and finding alternate ways to play chords and melodies can mix up a monotonous practice routine, and keep you interested in the wonderful world of sonic expression.
FretNaut is in active development, and the vast array of devices on the market means plenty of room for unique bugs to appear.
On top of that, instruments, music tastes, tunings, and playstyles are even more varied, and it's admittedly likely that FretNaut is missing something you want to see.

FretNaut itself does not collect any user data, and requires no user permissions (it does however access the app's own install folders to load and save user options and instrument list).
However, the app does currently use Unity Analytics, which collects some device and user data.
