Cholera, an acute infection of the intestine, remains a major public health problem across many countries and regions of the developing world.
The target region of this app is Bangladesh, a country in South Asia, where the disease is endemic.
Changing climatic conditions and recurrent natural disasters increasingly make the Bangladeshi population vulnerable to both epidemic and endemic cholera.
This version of the mobile application is designed to provide publicly available disease safety and warning directly to the users at the grass-roots level.
This app will also serve as the Control version of an accompanying app (CholeraMap) that provides cholera early-warning risk maps for the region.
This application was developed at the University of Rhode Island in collaboration with Moravian College, Pennsylvania State University, and Virginia Tech University.
The development of this application was funded by a research grant of the GABS (Grants for Assessing Benefits of Satellites) program administered by the Resources for the Future Foundation (RFF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
