Version 9 Release Notes:
In Spelling Champion version 9, we included handwriting recognition and refined the speech recognition system to improve accuracy.
Under ideal conditions the recognition accuracy of correctly spelled words is now approaching 100%.
Spelling Champion will still get correctly spelled words wrong from time to time, but those events are less frequent.
To improve speech recognition accuracy, reduce background noise, speak with a commanding and clear voice, and find the best spelling tempo.
First, reduce background noise.
Noise interferes with speech recognition, whether speaking to a machine or another person.
Finding a quiet environment or using noise canceling headphones that include a microphone can help.
Second, speak with a commanding and clear voice.
If there is noise, speaking a bit louder helps improve accuracy.
Testing of Spelling Champion often occurs in a room with a loud air conditioner and the spelling recognition works just fine under those conditions provided the speech is loud enough.
Third, find the best tempo for spelling words.
Spelling Champion recognizes well when words are spelled with a delay of 25-180 milliseconds between spoken letters.
Practically that means you want to say each letter without much hesitation between letters.
You should not need to hurry, but waiting too long between letters can cause recognition to degrade or fail.
If you are finding that the microphone turns off before you are finished spelling a word, try following the tempo provided by Spelling Assist.
You might find yourself wanting to spell at a slightly faster rate than Spelling Assist.
If so, turn off Spelling Assist when you find your own comfortable spelling tempo.
