Nalagarh Biodiverse Forest is spread over an area measuring approximately 3 hectares.

Afforestation works were initiated in the area by planting predominantly khair seedlings during 1952-53 and till 1970-71.
Despite years of heavy biotic pressure and presence of nearby town, these 50 years old plantations today stand tall with mature khair trees, transforming the old grazing ground into a forest.
In the year 2019, Honble National Green Tribunal issued directions to HP Government to prepare action plan for control of air pollution in non attainment cities of Himachal Pradesh.
In the action plan a biodiversity park at Nalagarh was proposed by HP forest department and hence works of Biodiversity Park commenced in July 2019.
In order to enrich the area with biodiversity various different plant species, both native and exotic have been planted in an organized manner for display as well as for improving the canopy density of the area.
The total forest area has been divided into 11 different thematic sectors with each sector inhabiting predominantly a particular group of plants having similar characteristics like Ornamental plants, Fruit bearing plants, Bamboo plants, Aquatic plants, Sacred plants, Medicinal plants, Aromatic plants, Cactus, Palms and Climbers & creepers.
Efforts have also been made to enrich the area with faunal diversity including birds, fishes, butterflies, frogs, reptiles etc.
For attracting bird species an artificial wetland has been created inside the forest and for attracting butterflies, flowering plant species has been planted in ornamental sector.
Various facilities for visitors, teachers, students, nature lovers and children have been created like sitting benches, bamboo huts, awareness boards, inspection paths, jogging tracks, children play area and public toilets.
The forest also boasts of being Himachal Pradeshs first Smart Forest which speaks about itself through a smart phone application.
As each thematic sector, plant species have been given a QR code giving detailed information through the app.
Serving the dual purpose of combating air pollution and a hotspot of biodiversity, Nalagarh Biodiverse Forest is a living entity which can engage with its visitors to bring awareness on nature and biodiversity conservation amongst them.
