Velocity Made Good is designed with close-hauled upwind sailing in mind to help determine the best point of sail for making progress to a destination.
By a long-press on the map you place a marker and the app shows you your distance, heading, ETA, speed over ground, and, most importantly, your Velocity Made Good towards the mark.
To use:
A long press on the map will drop a marker, and several lines will be shown.
The blue line simply shows the course to the mark, the green line shows current course extended out 5 minutes, and the fine black line shows the projected path over the next 30 minutes.
Maximizing the VMG on the lower left will help get you to the mark the fastest.
Distances are in nautical miles, and speeds are in knots.
