This app brings it back!
It will read the Google contacts, check for birthdays (every hour) and shows a birthday cake with the names in the notification bar.
Testet with Samsung Galaxy S3 + S4 (some manufacturers save the birthdays in other fields, so it won't get them)
To do list for V2.0:
- settings for the interval to check
- settings to tell the app how much days in the future should be checked
- show a list of the next birthdays in the main app

Bugfixes:
- notifications has been revised
- it's using the Google JobScheduler now.
Fixes problems within the energy saving mode on new smartphones
- new layout to show the links better
- ask the user for app permissions (needed for newer smartphones)
